Through this session, participants will be introduced to the field of planetary health which is a systems approach to solving some of our greatest existential challenges.

Understanding planetary health and the planetary health action plan the nation is embarking upon will provide participants the basic understanding of how to apply the principles in policy development, programs and strategies.

Objective / Purpose

The world is facing many uncertainties compounded by climate change. The SDGs are off track and unlikely to meet the ambitious goals set for 2030. How does the health of the planet relate to social, economic, environmental and health of human civilisation?

Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood is a medical professional with more than two decades of experience managing crises in health, disasters and conflict settings. she is currently Professor and Executive Director of the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Sunway University in Malaysia. She holds advisory council roles in the Government of Malaysia in Foreign Policy, Health and Climate Change.
